Questions people ask
How do I add a book?
Tap + on the shelf and choose a PDF or EPUB from Files, drag one in from another app, or use Share → Apricity from wherever the book is. Apricity keeps its own copy, so the original can stay where it is. Books protected with DRM by the store they came from, and password-protected PDFs, can't be opened.
Why does Reflow look odd on some pages?
Reflow rebuilds the text of a PDF so you can choose the type. Tables, equations and magazine layouts don't always survive that well. The Original view, one tap away at the top of the reader, always shows the page exactly as it was published. EPUBs are made to reflow, so they always open that way.
How do I get a natural voice?
Open a book, tap the headphones, then the speed button and Voice. Download Kokoro (about 98 MB, English) for ten natural voices that run on your device, or download one of Apple's Premium voices in Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices.
Where are my notes and notebooks kept?
On your device, inside the app, and in your private iCloud when iCloud sync is on. Export notes as Markdown from a book's Notes panel, and any notebook as a PDF from its share button. A notebook you delete waits in Recently Deleted (the trash button on the MySpace shelf) for 30 days, in case you want it back. Without iCloud sync, deleting the app deletes everything in it, so export anything you want to keep first.
Can I write on a PDF, like a worksheet or slides?
Yes. On the MySpace shelf, tap Import PDF to make a notebook of its pages, or in any notebook choose Insert (+) → PDF Pages from Files to add them after the page you're on. Write, type and draw on them, and search finds their text. To use a page you like as paper for new pages, add it under Change Paper → My Templates.
How do I record a lecture?
In a notebook, tap the microphone in the toolbar and write as usual; tap it again to stop. Later, touch and hold the microphone and choose Recordings, play one, and tap anything you wrote to hear what was being said as you wrote it. Ask the speaker before you record. With Premium, a recording can be transcribed on your device.
What are Smart Notes?
Tap the sparkles in a notebook for a summary, a quick quiz, or answers to questions about what you wrote, typed, imported or recorded. They're made on your device by Apple Intelligence, so they need a device that supports it, with Apple Intelligence turned on, and they come with Premium. Like any summary, check them against your notes.
How does iCloud sync work?
Turn it on or off in Apricity's Settings → iCloud; the change applies the next time Apricity opens. Your shelves, highlights, notes, notebooks and reading places sync through your own iCloud to your other devices on the same Apple Account. Your PDFs and EPUBs stay on each device: add the same file on another device and its highlights and notes are there waiting.
What's free, and what comes with Premium?
Adding books, shelves, reading in Original and Reflow, highlights, notes, notebooks, recording in notebooks and iCloud sync are free for good. Apricity Premium adds listening, exporting, transcripts of recordings, Smart Notes, the Crafted and Illustrated notebook covers, the focus timer, sounds to read by, furnishing the room, your own fonts, and stickers, stamps and washi tape. Every new reader gets 14 days of Premium free, with no card asked for; after that, Premium is a yearly subscription through the App Store. When Premium ends, nothing you made is deleted. If your version of Apricity doesn't show Premium yet, everything in it is free.
How do I cancel Premium or ask for a refund?
In Apricity, open Settings and use Manage Subscription or Request a Refund under Apricity Premium. You can also cancel in your device's Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Deleting the app doesn't cancel a subscription.
How do I get Premium on another device?
Sign in to the same Apple Account and tap Restore Purchases on the paywall or in Settings. Premium shared through Family Sharing appears on its own; it can take a moment.
Does Apricity need an account or the internet?
No account, ever. Reading, notes, notebooks, soundscapes and the focus timer all work offline. The internet is used for iCloud sync when it's on, for the App Store and checking Premium, to download the Kokoro voice if you choose to, and, the first time you transcribe in a language, for your device to download Apple's speech model for it.
Privacy
Your books, notes and notebooks stay on your device and in your private iCloud, and we never see them. Apricity has no accounts, advertising or tracking. The details are in the Apricity Privacy Policy, and the Apricity Terms of Use cover using the app and Apricity Premium.
